Redlees Park
South Lanarkshire Council have transformed the former Redlees Quarry area into an "Urban Fringe Park".
Part of the 27 acre site that hosted anti-aircraft guns and their operatives in World War II has been turned into an informal green space for the community. It now boasts new footpaths, a gated car park for access to the site, improved drainage and increased signage. Existing scrub has been replaced by new planting that can be managed with conservation high on the agenda. This was the first phase of the development using £300,000 from The Scottish Government Vacant and Derelict Land fun.
Community Links are continuing to work with the local community, South Lanarkshire Council and other partners and have secured £110,000 from the Forestry Commission for further development of the site. We will continue to keep you updated, however in the meantime, why not pop along and visit the site? There are some before and after photos below and relevant links that you may find useful.
