Volunteers, as mentioned above, make up the majority of our Board. The current Board structure is a follows:
-
4 Community Directors
-
1 Private Sector Representative
-
1 SLC Representative (advisory capacity only)
-
1 Company Secretary
Anna Shanks - Chairperson
Anna was voted on as Chairperson of Community Links at our AGM on 21st September 2011 and has been very active in her local Community for over ten years ago. At that time, Whitehill - along with Burnbank, Blantyre and Hillhouse - was a Social Inclusion Partnership (SIP) regeneration area. Each area had a Representative who decided to set up an office to co-ordinate the work, Community Links was born, the regeneration of the four areas was completed and SIP became Changing Places. Now a Lifelong Director of Community Links, Anna has found that being a founding member and being on the Board is something that gives her a great sense of satisfaction. She admits it was hard work in the beginning, but with the support of Project Manager, Morag Pinion, and the rest of the hard working staff at Community Links, the company has reached a successful position. Community Links is recognised as a company of good practice by the Scottish Executive and the company’s work has been recognised as being top class by many of its partners and other people who have been in contact with the company. Anna is proud of her involvement with the continuing development of the company.
Jack Ferguson - Joint Vice-Chairperson
Jack, who lives in Burnbank, has been a Director of the company twice since its beginnings in 2002. He was involved in the initial set up of Community Links and in 2007 took up the position of Vice Chairperson. Jack has now retired after almost 36 years of working with Philips Lighting in Hamilton and is married with two grown up children and one granddaughter who is the apple of his eye. Like our other Directors, Jack represents Community Links on various local boards including Up for It?, and is Chairperson for the NHS Public Partnership Forum (Hamilton). As Vice Chairperson, and with a service level agreement in place, Jack feels Community Links has gone from strength to strength and is seen by some to be the way forward.
Carol McGarry - Joint Vice-Chairperson
Carol, who lives in Hillhouse, has been a Director of the company since 2004 and in 2007 was voted on to share the position as Vice Chairperson with Jack. Carol, who has time limitations due to her employment with another local charity and her duties as a proud grandparent, is a valued member of the board and has an excellent background in charitable work, making her a good source of support and advice for the company and its other directors.
Bobby McKean
Bobby lives in Blantyre and has been a Director of the company since 2002. He was made a Lifelong Director in 2006 and recently stepped down as Chairperson at the AGM on 21st September 2011. Bobby is married and has a teenage son. As well as volunteering with Community Links, Bobby is also a successful local businessman and runs a local florist and country shop. He is also Director of B.N.I. Inspiration chapter (a business networking group) and a church Elder at St Andrew's Parish Church. a

Julie started working in her family business when she left university and worked in a variety of depots in a number of roles including admin, telesales and credit control until she moved into Warehousing and Distribution. In 2001 Julie took up the post of Operations Director within the family business and confesses she is still learning something new every day. Julie brings a great deal of expertise and knowledge to the company and by volunteering with Community Links, hopes to become more involved with and contribute more to the local community both personally and professionally.
